Try Hooping to Silence (Bird Dance)

And you'll find out that silence can be substantial. Not boring and certainly not without voice. And you'll hear your self. As I hooped today, the batteries got low and I had to ditch the iPod. What happened was phenomenal. I was suspicious. Will I be able to move feelingly without music?

At first it was stiff. Without music to occupy me, I had to manually do something with my mind. So I started singing a mantra to Radharani because She is the source of all inspiration, as Srila Prabhupada says. It was nice to hoop to your own singing.

radharani
Srimati Radharani, the Divine Mother
Then another idea came to me. I should hoop like a bird. For the past couple of days I've worn blue feathers in my hair. I also saw two dreams recently with a human-size peacock/phoenix looking bird that spoke to me. Seeing such in a dream symbolizes change and trust. Even right before I started hooping I saw a big bird circle above me in the sky and fly away.

It felt like a right thing to do - a bird dance. I had SO MUCH fun dancing and moving that I'm definitely going to hoop to silence again. Never know what you will hear when it's just you and the hoop.

So here we go:

Ah, that was BEAUTIFUL!! Hoop dancing to silence is a powerful thing. I have a video on my youtube that is just pure nature sounds. I think you've seen it. The place you are hooping in is also quite tranquil. I assume your friend's farm? Thank you for sharing. You make me want to go and hoop my heart out, which, right now, is not advisable with the wind chill down to negative five. Maybe I will take my hoop to work....
Anyways... love to you, dear hoop friend. Talk to you soon.

WOW, Bhakti, that is amazing. I LOVE your dance and innovation, and your courage to try something so raw and vulnerable as silent hoop dance. Inspiring. Thank you!!

Holy crap you're fast and GOOD! Beautiful video and dance, too :) Would you mind sharing the weight of your hoop? I'm using a 39 & 40" 160psi and am sooo ready to get something that will spin a little faster. Input would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks Jenna! It's a pretty light hoop, 100 PSI. Without tape it was too light for my taste so I put a lot of tape on it :D Definitely try a lighter one, it's a whole other world of movement opportunities!

This is so beautiful! A lot of inspiration for sure!

You know, that's the weight that I started out with, but it was entirely too light for me as a beginner so I broke it down and made hoops for my neice! LOL!! I'm going to get myself another one ASAP! Thank you for the info!

Thanks Happyhoopin!

Jenna, when you make the lighter hoop, don't make it too big - it will be very floppy if you do! (I think floppy is the right word in English LOL) My hoop is up to where the hips start or a bit above where the thighs end, that's a sweet size for 100PSI hoop in my opinion.
