Goodbye Organic Food in the USA?

I just took action calling on Secretary Vilsack and President Obama to reject the approval of Monsanto's GMO alfalfa and protect the integrity of organics. You can take action too by signing this letter and telling your friends about this, maybe post a link to it on your Facebook, Twitter, etc also.
It's not just about the US, Monsanto are after a global control over food production. 40,000 Indian farmers have committed suicide due to Monsanto farm debt. The GMO crop does not produce a seed and the chemicals dry the land up. They can't afford new seeds and their land becomes worthless. There are so many reasons why Monsanto should be stopped (you can research online easily if you want to find out more). Let's fix this mess!

Vote with your money - don't buy GMO. Of course the problem is that in the US it's not required to label foods with GMO in them. In the Europe it's different - honest labeling is required. That's why Hershey's, a huge chocolate company, makes a special, GMO-free chocolate for the European markets. For the US products they use GMO because hey, Americans don't care. So let's start caring all of us human beings, this planet is perfect on its own and we do not need to change one single gene about it. Don't you think??

“If people let the government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny.” Thomas Jefferson, 1781

Good Witch of Winter

I was running around a snowy forest in Finland and my sister Kaisu took some pics. The text on the red building says 'Pornainen stinks'. Pornainen is a small town near Helsinki, in southern Finland, where I grew up. Somebody doesn't like it there. I miss it :)

Need Funds to Develop a Cocaine Habit

Aapo Nikkanen makes interesting art as well as good psytrance with the name Pekkanikkarinen. He shares his music for free and you can download both of his albums here and the other one here. I would write more but my laptop dies in 1 minute, so just enjoy the art :)

How to Make a Milkmaid Braid

I like this hairdo a lot! I did it yesterday and decided to take pics of the process. I had the camera on a chair most of the time and tried to fit myself into the picture, in whatever random light was there, so I'm sorry for any visual sloppiness. Hope you can figure out how to do this, it's really easy and takes just a few minutes. You need two hair ties and two or three pins.
1. Brush your hair and part it where you like.

2. Divide your hair somewhat in the middle in two bunches.

3. Pull all the hair on the right side over the left side bunch.

4. Braid the right side bunch.

5. It looks like this now:

6. Pull the left bunch of hair to the right side, over the right braid, and braid that too.

7. It will look like this, front and back:

8. Lift the right braid to the right side of your head and pin it down.

9. Do the same to the left braid. If needed you can add pins to catch any hair that pokes out and to hold the braids firmer into place.

10. Ta-dah!

11. And now dear Miss Milkmaid, to live up to your name you can pledge to love cows and not eat them :

The Path You Follow

Please bare with me as I'm all emo-spiritual today :)

In the Bhagavad-gita, Krishna says to His friend Arjuna,
mama vartmanuvartante
manusyah partha sarvasah:
"Everyone follows My path in all respects, O son of Pritha."

And it says in the Srimad-Bhagavatam, "Everyone is seeking Krishna, for He is the Supersoul of all individual souls. Everyone loves his body and wants to protect it because he is within the body as the soul, and everyone loves the soul because the soul is part and parcel of the Supersoul. Therefore, everyone is actually seeking to achieve happiness by reviving his relationship with the Supersoul."

The way I understand this is that we can't avoid following someone's leadership. At least we'll follow the lead of our own mind. Our own mind is simply a product of the experiences we've had in this world. So our mind alone can never release us from material consciousness.

Material consciousness means we think we are the body, made of matter. When the body dies, we die. Material consciousness leaves us unsatisfied as every single material pleasure is temporary. Anything material can't satisfy our essence because, as spiritual beings, our essence is non-material. Without feeding our soul we live in a starving, lacking, craving condition.

But this universe is like a big system for self-realization. Sooner or later every being will come to the point on their path where they understand who they are and what their home is. Krishna wants to speed up that process for us so He spoke the Bhagavad-gita. There are similar teachings in every culture, religion and tradition, given by God or people empowered by Him, just so we would keep going towards the truth on our path. It is His path nonetheless. Whether we choose to go towards, or away from the Supreme. He'll give us the intelligence to do either one. It's up to us.

We're always loved. That's why we have free will. There's no love without free will. Krishna wants our love because you are unique and no one else can have a relationship with Him as you can.

He misses you.

I Got an Honorary Mention on Hoopie Awards 2011!

"Then, in another direction entirely, we throw ourselves to the birds and imagine ourselves in flight, a hooping bird dance if you will, and the more you watch Bhakti Omwoods' Bird Dance the more you begin to appreciate her big bird brilliance."
Hooping.org annually awards the most impressive hooping activity of the year and they gave me an honorary mention in the 'solo video' category. Much love and thanks to the worldwide hooping community!

Fairy Street Fashion from Finland

Let me introduce you to various Finnish manifestations of the universal Fairy Gang who dance the streets and keep them interesting. Most of these ladies I have the privilege to know in person although we get to hang out rarely as I live on the other side of the planet. But I connect to them, if nothing else, via imaginative ways of dressing :) [And Facebook, which is where I snatched most of these pics from.]

My sister knows this girl and said her name is Saara. I love her warm elven look and the handy pockets and bags. I found this pic actually on hel-looks.com a while back which is a website that showcases Helsinki street styles. I just copied and saved the pic because, look at it, why wouldn't you?!

Every summer the Finnish pixie people have parties at Alppipuisto (or 'The Alp Park') near the center of Helsinki. I remember raving here as an energetic teenager, and hooping here a year ago or so. They bring speakers and all necessary equipment to that yellow gazebo and the DJ's mostly play psytrance.

Laura and rad jewelry. (Check out her shop - 'nouveau vintage meets modern tribal'!) Love those purple felt dreadie things. Marianne gave me some of those when I was in Finland last time and I love wearing them! You can see some of them here where I wrote about her.

Here's Marianne's feather foot. What a sweet idea.

Above is Oona who makes magnificently beauuutiful clothing, accessories and such. I'll make a post of her stuff in the future I think.

This is Mani who also sang on our quite recent spontaneous recording. Photo by Olli Aurinko Ylinen.

This one is from hel-looks.com as well. Super colorful and fun. I miss seeing people dress in these ways. You don't see it too often in the USA - things look quite monotonous here. I even started writing this whiny poem about it but never got too far with it:

As you rise from the bed
and get ready to get dressed,
please activate the imagination
area inside of your head...

Here's Kaisu and doggie, both in warm and casual home-elfish attires.

And yes, here's yours truly, with a flower crown my hubby made me. He taped the branches together. The next crown he made me some time later he used little pieces of grass to tie the flowers together. I think he may have a very fairy future.

Oh and by the way, you can wear fairies too. Sometimes I put them in my pockets or hang them from something or other that I'm wearing. One day I had Mantra in my pocket. I don't have a good picture of her but you can kind of see her hood, magic wand and left hand in the close up. The dress is from Sandwich

Ok everybody, let me see you dress like a fairy-tale-princess-romantic-ballerina-lace-queen-magic-colorful-natural-layer-warrior-whatever! If you do, post a link to your pic in comments or email me your pics (omyourself@gmail.com). It's so much fun and come on, doesn't everybody (at least everyone girly I guess) want to do it?! Or maybe it's just us Finnish chicks. Prove us wrong, rest of the world. Please. I'm bored. Go more fairy. Even once. If you feel like it.

And it doesn't have to always be layered. It can be very simple too. Let me leave you with evidence from my sisters, Kaisu caught and photographed in the forest by our official fairypaparazzi, Minna.
