Remembering the Finnish Psytrance Scene

Something extraordinary is happening tonight. I'm going to a psytrance party in the USA. At one point in my life I used to go to psy parties every weekend, sometimes a few times a week. (FYI, they're raves where the dj's play psychedelic trance which is quite a specific category of electronic music.) Obviously, this wasn't in the USA but in Finland where the scene is very much ALiVe and kiKkiNg.

There is even a category of psytrance called suomisaundi, or suomi. It's Finnish and simply translates to "Finland Sound". For more info on it check the Wiki on it. For a heartwarming experience of it, listen to this track from 2003 (I think?) by Aavepyörä. It's a remix of the cartoon Tao Tao theme song. I listened to it like eight times yesterday and a couple of times today, just love how kooky it is.

In the summer the suomi heads have tons of forest parties in various secret locations, decorated with UV art and tapestries. I remember going to these a lot and dancing all night, and the next day. Sometimes the police would find out and come stop the party. I don't think the parties were really stopped too often, just relocated :)

Finnish psytrancers keep dancing, in the forest, in the morning:

...and in the forest, late at night:

In the summer they take over the park and dance:

...and in the winter they take over the park and dance:

They take over the main streets in busy Helsinki downtown and dance:

I guess this last video really sums it up and shows you some beautiful Finnish nature as well.

I'll finish off my reminiscing with a pic of myself in a Finnish UG psy party about a year ago :) Happy weekend everyone!

New Songs: Fairy Princess ASAP & Lonely

I noticed suddenly that I'm a bit lonely sometimes because I live on the road and can never hang out with anyone for too long and this song Lonely came out of those feelings. I can't tell, I'm not that musical apparently, the harmonies may be kind of totally off kilter in the end but well it was just one take, and I'm lazy like that.
.Fairy Princess ASAP
What can I say, one too many vampire drama for me I guess.
Find lyrics for Lonely here, and lyrics for Fairy Princess ASAP here. Maybe I should be more embarrassed for sharing my weird, unpolished, unprofessional songs :) But it's so much fun making and singing them, why not share them too.

Make a Poem with Poem Machine!

There's this website, runokone.com (runokone is 'poem machine' in Finnish) and they have an option to create a poem in English here. Please go do so! And post your creation in the comments here, I would love to read it! You just fill in some words and the poem is constructed for you. It's a lot of fun.

I made another one too:

i carry your heart with me

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
                                 i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Samuel Beckett says... (tiny hoop video)

The weather was so beautiful today, around 70 F (over 20 Celcius) and I took pictures of the first flowers I saw this spring. Then I spent many hours fighting with my hubby, what can you say, sometimes you just gotta yell. We washed the car and I expressed to him my desire to detach his head and put it in the water bucket. He just smiled, he was happy about my new-found "feistiness" as he calls it. Later he brought me cookies and total peace was established. Like two little flowers.

This is from my last hooping session in the warehouse where we stayed for the past month, a little thought I think of often. Balarama (our vehicle/home) got a heart transplant aka a new engine and we're back on the road now! Heading to Chapel Hill/Raleigh area in North Carolina, hopefully I'll find some hoopers to jam with over the weekend or next week. (If YOU are in the area, leave a comment!)
Alright, happy weekend friends! Peace and love and light and sparkles and fairies and no heads in buckets :D

I Got a Letter from Israel

My sister Minna is traveling around Israel, heading to Egypt soon (if things remain calm there, that is). She works at yoga ashrams and such for free lodging or makes friends and stays at their homes. She just sent me gorgeous photos that I'll share with you, along with some words describing her stokedness.

"My paradise. Sunset, ocean, horses down at the beach, halava in my pocket, cat sharing love as soon as I lay down. Later that cat ate our pita bread from the car hahah pita supervisor. We still managed to eat most of it later. I LOVE ISRAEEELLLL!!!"

Useful Things Like Love

"Bart, with 10,000 dollars we’d be millionaires! We could buy all kinds of useful things like……love!" Homer Simpson
"We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love." Dr Seuss

Happy Valentine's Day!

Raving Alone in a Warehouse

For over a month now we've been in North Carolina, waiting to get back on the road. The engine of our van kind of blew up which is a big job to fix. (That trailer in the video is my friend's project, not ours...)
Anyhow I've been hooping in this warehouse and listening to Ben Rama's album The Invisible Kingdom. The song here is Gypsies & Jezebels. Well, I added the mantra towards the end on it. Yeah, I wish you were here dancing with me :) Big old warehouse and just one hooper. What a shame.
Oh today is our 3-year wedding anniversary! Here I try to pose all dreamy and ethereal as Philip gives me the finger for blocking his unethereal cheerful face. Have a nice weekend everybody!

Buddhist Barbie

In the 5th century B.C.
and Indian philosopher
Gautama teaches "All is emptiness"
and "There is no self."
In the 20th century A.D.
Barbie agrees, but wonders how a man
with such a belly could pose,
smiling, and without a shirt.
